Again check out your local thrift stores or even your own closets for items like old sweater, jeans and t-shirts these are all great even if they have holes or stains you can use them to make gift bags of all different styles and sizes. If there is a whole or stain make a cute patch to cover it up or with stains you could use paint or buttons to cover the stain.

Handmade and Christmas go together Free and Easy Recycled Christmas Ornament Projects

In and earlier post I gave a list of some items that you could save for making christmas ornament.

Lets get out those small coffee can lids to make some mini wreath ornaments.

Supplies:

Coffee can lids
old pair of jeans
old buttons
glue

Step 1: Cut or rip the jeans into approx. 1/2 in strips and then cut the strips into approx. 6 inch lengths.

Step 2: Cut out the inside of the lid , so that you have the outer ridge of the lid intact, by poking a hole in the center of the lid and cutting out the center up to the line of the outer ridge of the lid.

Step 3: Tie the stips of the old jeans around the ring you made out of the lid until the entire ring is covered.

Step 4: Glue on the old buttons in a pleasing manner.

You could also make these using alternating strips of different color fabric in christmas colors, by following steps 1-3.

FREE CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT PROJECTS for the KIDS

Supplies you will need:
caps from milk jugs, bleach bottles or other similar caps
white glue
sparkles
fabric paint with writing tip
scraps of yarn or string
nail( parents should help young children with this step.)

Step 1: Wash the caps and dry.

Step 2: Using the nail poke a hole in one side of the cap. ( parents please help your young children with this step)

Step 3: Cut approx. 4 inch peice of string or yarn and then thread both end of the yarn through the top of the hole and then tie the two ends of the yarn together this will make a hanger.

Step 4: Spread out white glue on to the cap and then sprinkle the glitter on top of the glue, let dry.

Step 5: Use the fabric paint like a pen and write your initial on top of the glitter.( small children may need a little help with this part.)

Your kids can make a bunch of these and spell out there whole name.

This is a wonderful season to be charitable especially with all of the coat and food drives that go on in schools and stores. My Children all have two winter coats in case one gets dirty they have an extra one, some kids don't even have one, So please donate your old coats to these coat drives you will make some one warm this holiday season.

My children love going to thrift stores ours happens to be a local one that is run by the church, so we went and purchased 3 children's coats for less than $15.00 to donate to the local coat drive, this is a great way to help in a number of ways, first you help support the church that usually uses the money for local charity for food and other things in the community and then you help a person who needs a coat. And last of all it helps you, because it make people feel good to help others.

I think that in these times when you may be low on money because of the economy, but you would still like to participate in helping others this could be a great choice to stop at the thrift store and pick something up. You may also find something you really love for your self.

Just think of all the things you may use every day that you could use in other ways to help decorate and organize your home.

Do you use scrunchies, if you listen to fashion they say scrunchies are out, but if you have long hair they are one of the easiest ways to put your hair up. But if you have a collection of them and you want to organize them and dress up a candle at the same time. Buy one of those tall candles that come in a glass and slide on your scrunchies its that easy, make this tall plain candle very cute. We keep a lot of these candles around in case the electric goes out, since they are in the glass they are safer when we have to use them but they are not really all that attractive. Other items that could be used to dress them up are some old clip on earing of course when you burn the candle you will have to remove them if you clip them onto the rim. But if you put a scruncy around the candle and then clip the earing onto the scunchie they can just be slid to the bottom when burning the candle.

As Christmas is a wonderful time of year for kids and they love to participate in the decorating for Christmas. We will be bringing you some free craft projects that the kids can work on also.

I have three children who through out the years have made the up coming craft projects so they have been tested on kids.

Some items that should be saved for these up coming projects are:

My handmade dream catchers were made because I bought several of a certain child's toy that they play with usually outside and when they tried to use them they decided that it wasn't for them these items sat outside and were not being used and because I don't like to let things go to waste I had to come up with something to do with them. Free recycled box craft project

This project was very simple to make. It was made out of a box from that had six of the cup of soups in it. I simply painted it with 2 coats of acrylic paint and then used a yarn to crochet a chain and glued on to the edges of the box. then I crochet 2 other chains to make the pattern on the front. I then put some crumple up newspaper in the bottom of the box added some spanish moss and some potpourri to match the colors.

If you didn't know how to crochet you could braid the yarn to make the edging

You could also make some of the decorative balls that you will find down the page in an earlier post. You could easily change the colors of this project to match any colors or decor in your home.

My beloved inspiring children

This is a gathering of my beloved children and their cousins. Ranging in ages of 1 up to 15.

Here is a picture of some snow drops in bloom that my youngest daughter took, she loves nature and is very helpful with cleaning up our local roads on our nature walks.

This picture was taken at my job of my kids from my job.

Heres some more free craft projects using recycled materials

These tassles would be great to use and curtain tie backs.

I used the bottle from the white glue (elmers) and cut it in half then covered it with the brown paper bag that I crumple up and used a glue, acrylic paint and water mixture.
Then I made a simple tassle and added some painted wooden beads.

I just love earthy colors but these you could simply chance using other color papers and some yarn or even some ribbons.

Almost 100% recycled materials!!!!!!!!!!!

These were made by starting with newspaper and crumpling the news paper up in a ball until you get the size of a ball that you wish and then to hold the ball together I used some tin foil, wrapped around the newspaper. I then crumpled up a brown paper bag and then straightened it back out and tore the paper into small irregular shapes and glued it on using a mixture of white glue, water and acrylic paints.

I then crochet a chain and glued that around sone lids form peanut butter jars, you could use simalar lids. Then I glued the balls to the lids using hot glue.

There are so many other variation that you could make to match any type of decore.

Change the paper you use or use fabrics to cover these balls and place them in a decortive basket like you see in the magazines.

Free wall hanging project and other craft projects from recycled materials

This wall hanging is made from a combination of both recycled and natrual materials.

These are the supplies that I used in this project:
Paper grocery bag
white glue
a little water
acrylic paints browns and reds
a stick
jute
childs paint brush from water colors
hot glue gun and glue sticks

I crumpled up a paper bag and then ripped into 3 large triagular peices. Then using a mixture of the glue, water and paint I glued the 3 triangular shapes back together, painted a layer of the glue mixture over the entire surface and then let dry. I then used a childs paint brush to paint on a diamond shape in the center and tiangle shapes around
the outer edges.

I then tied jute to each end of the stick to make a hanging and then hot glued the stick across the back.

These are made out a milk carton and a large sauce jar. You could add some dried flowers or sticks and use them for vases.

For those that are interested in learning ways to use recycled items to make items to decorate their homes I am going to give you a list of items you should start saving for the up coming projects that I will post. I will first list the items that are recycled, some items that you might want to look around for in thrift stores and yard sales and lastly the items that you might need to purchase although sometimes you can find them at thrift stores and yard sales, so keep your eyes out for them.

Recycled items:
Jars from sauce or mayo or anyother interesting looking jars.
Cans of all sizes. (Already posted some ideas will be adding more).
Magazines.
Newspapers.
Yogurt cups and lids.
Bleach bottles, Laundry detergent bottles.
Shampoo and conditioner bottles.
Chocolate syrup bottles
Brown paper shopping bags

Items to look for at yard sales and thrift stores:
blue jeans.
ladies boots and shoes
sweaters
decorating magazines
silk flowers
buttons
fabric

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Free ideas for home decorating

One of the greatest ways to decorate your home on a budget is by using things that you might throw away or by using your local thrift store. There are alot of items that can be bought at thrift stores and remade or reused in home decorating.
I would suggest getting to know the people in your local thrift stores if you choose to use this as a resource for your decorating or crafting. I go to my local thrift store at least once every other week, sometimes I even go 2 times a week.

I have made friends with the ladies that volunteer to run the thrift store that I go to and I have made a deal with them that when they have items that they plan on throwing out or somethings that has sat there to long, they allow me to look though these items and rescue them before going into our landfill, now don't get me wrong there are a lot of things that I haven't been able to use and I haven't rescued everything, but every little bit helps.

Some of the items that I have rescued to use are old chipped plates, alot of times these don't sell unless they are very pretty and sometimes not even then.

I take these plates and decorate them using all different techniques here are some of the easier ideas that I have used:
If you have a plate that has a nice design in the middle of flowers and the plate is chipped on the edged you could hot glue silk flowers that match the colors around the edge of the plate.

Or

If you have a plate that is not so pretty you could decoupage the plate using pretty papers, or use old magazines pictures to cover them( you can always find pictures of plates that they sell in magazines and use those pictures ).
If you do choose to make some plates for decorating your home remember that a group of these will have a better impact then just one, so have fun and make at least 3.

Unique and Funky Handmade Dream Catchers from recycled items

These handmade dream catchers are some of the first ones that I made out of recycled items and have been sold.But I wanted to share them to show that you can use almost anything and make something out of it. Top one is made out of old shoes that my local church thrift store had not sold in over a year, because of scuff marks and such so I rescued them and fixed them up to place on this dream catcher. So just remember just about anything can be used in arts and crafts so think twice before you throw something away.
The 2nd picture is made from recycled belts when choosing the belts I tried to choose ones that the thrift store was having a hard time selling ones with torn ends and such, I did still however pay for these items to help support the thrift store, the town I come from is very small and I have to go to another small town next to the one I live in to go thrifting, but because they are small towns I have seen to many close down from lack of funding and these thrift stores are a great way to keep alot of things going into the garbage.

Handmade native american inspired

Free nature craft project

I love going out and collecting things that I can use in my craft projects. This is a simple project that I made out of some sticks that I picked up in the woods on a walk with my kids. When we go out and walk we take a couple of bags with us some for finds and another for picking up garbage this is a small thing that anyone can do to help make our enviroment a cleaner and healthier place for our children.

This project was made by tying sticks together and gluing on a bow of raffia and some feathers.

So as this as my mission I would like to share ways to use items that you might normally throw away and turn it into some wonderful item to maybe decorate with or give as presents and so forth. I will also share ways of re-using items that you could pick up at thrift stores, yard sales, ect.

Today I have shared some photos of some craft projects that I have made out of recycled items, I hope you enjoy these free ideas.

All three of these are made from recycled cans from large coffee cans and bean cans. I will continue sharing my free ideas with you in the hopes that you can use them and pass them along .

The first picture is made out of a large can of kidney beans and was simply wrapped using jute and glue to hold the jute in place and using the jute to make a large up and down zizag then added some wooden items found at a garage sale.

The second picture is of another recycled can, this one is a large coffee can and again simply wrapped with jute and trimed with a piece of fur from an old coat and again adding some wooden finds from a garage sale.

The third picture is also a large recycled coffee can and this was wrapped in a thick twine rope instead of the jute. Featuring a cute child play horse picked up at our local dollar store and glued to the top of the can.

Any of these cans are great to store small items in that you like to keep hidden away and out of site.
